All proceeds from the calendar go directly to charity which supports people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Hannah Muirhead, manager of WCF Pet & Equestrian’s Carlisle store, said: “As WCF are long-standing supporters of the hospice, it made sense for us to stock the calendars in our north and west Cumbrian stores. It’s a stunning calendar which captures some of the county’s most iconic views and scenery and it’s proving really popular with our customers.”
The calendar features photos of the Lake District and Cumbria taken by members of the public. More than 300 photos were submitted for consideration, with the final selection chosen by a panel of judges including WCF Managing Director, Jo Ritzema. The 12 winners who made the final selection were invited to a celebration event at the hospice on September 30 as a thank you.
Alex Groves, Business Development Manager with Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, said: “We’re always delighted and amazed by the quality of the photos which we receive every year, and this year is no different. As a charity, having the ongoing support of local businesses such as WCF makes a huge difference to us, whether that’s through fundraising, volunteering or offering practical support such as providing a valued retail outlet as in this case.”
It costs £4.8 million a year to run Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, with around 80% funded by voluntary donations from individuals, businesses and community groups. The other 20% comes from NHS grants.
WCF is also a member of Club 24, a collection of local businesses who support the ongoing financial requirements of the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw by providing the cost of 24 hours of care for one patient. Our Managing Director, Jo Ritzema, said on joining Club 24: “As a business very much rooted in Cumbria, we make it a priority to support organisations such as the hospice which make a huge difference to our communities. The Club 24 initiative is a brilliant way for businesses to support the work they do and ensure that people across Cumbria continue to receive the vital services they provide to patients and their families.”
